Sydney Contemporary 2026: Highlights Edit

What an incredible, exhilarating, and somewhat exhausting four days in Sydney! Good to be home after a whirlwind presentation. It was wonderful connecting with both familiar faces and new patrons from around Australia and abroad. Nothing beats that first night back in your own bed after a non-stop marathon on your feet. Marking its milestone 10th edition from September 3–6, 2026, at Carriageworks, the fair welcomed a record 26,813 visitors—making it the highest-attended edition to date. With 19% of visitors traveling from outside Sydney specifically to attend, the energy across the precinct was electric.

Rounding Up the Fair

Sydney Contemporary is massive, bringing together 116 exhibitors and over 500 artists under one roof. Over its decade-long history, the fair has generated an estimated $154 million in art sales, underscoring the vital commercial role it plays for galleries and independent creators alike. In an economic climate where times are tough and artists are fighting harder than ever to sustain their craft, a quote highlighted at the fair from the late conceptual artist Billy Apple® hit particularly close to home:

"The artist has to live like everybody else."

All three of our artist showcases reflected this exact ethos—bringing authentic, high-quality, regional art from the Southern Highlands community straight to Sydney.
